Toggle "Targeting refinements"
Targeting Refinements
1) Offensive skills and attacks will now identify a valid target on screen if you have no target selected.
2) Outside of combat, it is now possible to interact with adjacent NPCs and items with no target selected.
3) The Target Display now has a button that clears your target.
I'm not sure i actually even understand how the second one works, but so far i've not been liking the first and third.
1) I like picking my own targets, please and thank you. When the game does it for me, it screws up my rythm, AND if they game is doing the targeting for me, why am I even there. Seems to be a step towards making guild wars into a TV show, and less of a game that I control.
3) If I want to untarget something, i find it simple and fast enough to target myself by tapping the F key. The F key is faster, and the "cancel" button just adds clutter to the screen. having a grey button at the right edge of a healthbar even makes me think the target has a deep wound (at a quick passing glance).
If possible, I would prefer if these "refinements" could be toggled off somewhere in the "Options" window.

/signed many times over plus once for each family member (even though I am the only one who plays Guild Wars)
The new targeting system is fine, but for me personally it's a hassle. When I am on my monk, and I don't need to heal anyone I generally wand to help kill the enemies. Today, while farming in Sorrow's Furnace, we killed the last target in a mob and since I had pressed space bar one too many times I found myself running over to Budger Blackpowder with a keg in my arms - one that I didnt need no less. I never talked to him, didn't want or need to, but I did because the new system made me do it.
I can see its usefulness, especially for frontline warriors and such, but it's a hassle in-and-of itself. I think it should be refined, removed, or we should be given an option to turn it off. My preference is to have an option to turn it off, so I can play the game the way I want to and not be forced to auto-pickup loot or auto-talk to nearby NPCs against my whim.

i noticed while doing a Kurzick supply mission that if i fought to close to the supplys on ground it just auto-picks them up - annoying for melee

The auto targeting is a nice idea, I'm not so sure about the implementation.
The biggest problem I've had with it so far is when I'm in the middle of an Attack chain while using my Assassin and the target dies. I auto switch targets and try to hit them with an attack out of order. It's a waste of fight time, energy, especially when that skill can cost 15 energy as in the case of Temple Strike, and can really mess up some of my other skills. This effectively destroys Fox's Promise until this issue is addressed as I find myself missing many times and no way of canceling in time. Melee battles can be hectic and fast paced, I can't affod to lose time and energy to something I can't control.
Another issue has been the actual targets themselves. I've been mid fight against numerous opponents, my job being to hold a position and tank, while fighting. If my target dies, it doesn't necessarily choose the nearest target, or even the best target for my job in the party. During one battle today, the auto targeting sent me away from my duties to chase an archer because the Warrior I was hittting died. This allowed the rest of the warriors, some three or four enemies, to break away from me and go after my team.
I like that the dev team is trying to find more ways to help the casual and even the hardcore gamers enjoy their play experiences. I just hope they can find ways to implement such good dieas without taking away from what's already appealing to so many.
Thanks for reading.

A toggle would definately be welcome.
An option for toggling between functions of the autotargeter would be nifty as well - autotarget nearest, autotarget near cursor, autotarget middle of screen, don't autotarget more than once every 2 seconds, and so on.
Personally though, I'd like to see the system changed a bit into this;
The auto-targeter doesn't actually target anything until you use a skill or press attack/interact, but only "suggests" a target. It should be clear whether a target is suggested or actually targeted, perharps by a different (dotted, maybe?) circle under the character.
If the nearest target is suggested and you press 'next target', it should properly target what would be targeted as if you had nothing targeted in advance.
With the above system, you could also implement a "target suggested target" key, and a "do not target suggested target when using skills" toggle.
The word "target" lost all meaning to me, now.

Yup... I like it when it targets NPCs in outposts, but it sucks targeting enemies.

Further problems with the auto targeting:
I was LB/SS grinding in Sulferous when I suddenly found myself fighting more mobs than expected. It seems that my target had died, and the auto target locked on to a shrine, thus releasing a new mob before the previous one had been dispatched. Another reason that a toggle should be added to this feature.
Further request:
Would it be possible to remove this feature until the toggle fix is programmed? I'd hate to have to deal with this cra..clever new feature for 3-4 months while we wait for a fix, especially when the old targetting worked sufficiently.
